Loved Forever War.
The sequel Forever Free was a bit mental and 'late-Hitchhikers/-Red Dwarf novels'.
Once I could disassociate the "companion novel" Forever Peace in my mind from the first one, I really enjoyed it. He seems to have pulled a bit of a Kubrick and put in a load more sex (and violence) in his old age, but perhaps it's my imagination!
